Let me take you back to the Fourth of July, 2025.

It was one of those sun-drenched Portland days that feels like something out of a movie, Mt. Tabor lit up in soft, golden tones, laughter echoing through the trees, and the scent of pine and street tacos in the air. I was booked to capture a beautiful outdoor wedding at this iconic Portland park. And while the day ended in celebration, community, and a few spontaneous dance moves, I'll be honest with you, it started with a hiccup!

10 Minutes Late. 1 Big Oops.

Through a miscommunication on my end (yes, totally my fault), I arrived ten minutes later than planned. And in the fast-moving world of wedding timelines, ten minutes can feel like forever. But here’s the thing—weddings are about love, not perfection. And love showed up in full force.

As soon as I stepped foot onto the grounds, I switched into full “let’s do this” mode. Cameras out. Lenses cleaned. Settings dialed. Within minutes, I was capturing raw, emotional moments—the kind you can’t script. The groom’s face as he first saw his bride. A teary-eyed grandma. Sunlight breaking through the canopy just as they exchanged vows.

Behind the Scenes, Front and Center

The couple didn’t just get posed shots—they got the real story. I filmed behind-the-scenes footage of stolen glances, nervous laughter, and a chaotic but hilarious last-minute floral rearrangement. These weren’t just photos or video clips, they were memories that’ll bring smiles (and probably a few laughs) for decades.

From Photographer to Guest… to Party MVP?

Here’s where the story takes a twist. After the ceremony, I hit it off with the driver of the party bus that had shuttled guests to the venue. We exchanged cards and chatted about future work (hello, business opportunities!).

As the sun dipped below the skyline and the music kicked up, I put the camera down—just for a moment—and joined in the celebration. The couple invited me to ride along on the party bus, and who was I to say no to love, laughter, and neon lights? By the end of the night, I was more than a vendor—I was part of the family.

Lessons from the Lens

Sometimes things don’t go as planned. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned in photography—and in life—it’s that moments are bigger than mistakes.

That day at Mt. Tabor reminded me why I do what I do. Not just to snap a photo, but to show up, stay human, and capture the beautiful mess of life as it unfolds.

To the newlyweds—thank you for your grace, your trust, and your wild dance floor energy.

To the party bus crew—see you at the next ride.

And to future couples—know that no matter what happens, I’ll be there to catch the magic.
